Yojimbo

For the twenty-ninth film of the month we have Yojimbo

First off, we have the story which has a crafty ronin who comes to a town divided by two criminal gangs and decides to play them against each other to free the town. I thought the story was very entertaining with how it was crafted and how it all came together by the end.

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were very good and the standout performance was Toshiro Mifune as the main lead Sanjuro as he deals with both gangs and how he plays them against each other.

As for the film's visuals I thought it had some great cinematography with well directed camera movement and positioning which added a lot to the film as well as building up the conflicts. Moving onto the tone of the film which built up the drama from start to finish as events escalated to violence. I thought the soundtrack of the film was great and built up the suspension throughout the film very well.

Overall, I thought this film was another entertaining film by Kurosawa with his take on a story that feels like a Western and it pulls it off superbly with it's overall story and characters that fit this type of film.

I give Yojimbo a score of 9/10
