Sanjuro

First off, we have the story which has a crafty samurai help a young man and his fellow clansmen save his uncle, who has been framed and imprisoned by a corrupt superintendent. I thought the story was very interesting and being familiar with the main character a getting to see how he would work in this film.

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were good in terms of acting and having the returning Toshiro Mifune as the same ronin from Yojimbo was nice to see with the way he interacted with the other main samurai. 

As for the film's visuals, I thought the cinematography was great with how the sequences are constructed in terms of the camerawork to give certain scenes as much weight as possible. Now we have the action which was entertaining from the fighting and to some of the mind games involved. Moving onto the tone of the film which managed to include a small amount of comedy and some interesting drama. I thought the soundtrack of the film worked well and suited the setting of the story. 

I give Sanjuro a score of 8/10

The Hidden Fortress

First off, we have the story which has two greedy peasants lured by gold escort a man and woman across enemy lines. However, they do not realize that their companions are actually a princess and her general. I thought the story was thrilling and enjoyable as the peasants faced many challenges over the journey. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were good in terms of acting across the board and chemistry between the two main leads as well as with the general and princess held the story together. 

As for the film's visuals, I thought the cinematography was great and I liked the location footage across the journey especially the fortress and forest locations and the camerawork  with it's framing and depth captures Kurosawa's style well. Now we have the action which when it appeared was choreographed very well and the peril was definitely felt. Moving onto the tone of the film which had some cutting tension and interesting drama to make the film compelling. I thought the soundtrack added to the film nicely with some good uses of music from the time period. 

I give The Hidden Fortress a score of 8/10

Throne Of Blood

First off, we have the story which has a war-hardened general, egged on by his ambitious wife, works to fulfill a prophecy that he would become lord of Spider's Web Castle. I thought the story was very entertaining to see how Kurosawa would adapt the story of Macbeth by Shakespeare. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought in terms of acting were great with Toshiro Mifune being an obvious standout with his version as Macbeth. The rest of the cast also did a good job with their versions of the characters from the story. 

As for the film's visuals, I thought the cinematography was fantastic especially some of the designs for the locations which give the film a mystifying atmosphere and presence. Moving onto the tone of the film which was very striking with the way the story was presented and how the supernatural elements were handled. I thought the soundtrack of the film was great with the way it used the tracks to create a haunting feel especially as the story progressed.

I give Throne Of Blood a score of 9/10

First off, we have the story which has a traumatized veteran, unafraid of violence, tracks down missing girls for a living. When a job spins out of control, Joe's nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what may be his death trip or his awakening. I thought the story was very interesting since I didn't know what to expect going in.

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were good in terms of acting with Joaquin Phoenix giving a chilling and is able to show so much with his expressions and what he is holding back. 

As for the film's visuals I thought, I thought the cinematography was great slowly building up scenes with the camerawork and the choices in camera positioning and lighting worked well. Moving onto the tone of the film which built the tension masterfully and the way the violence worked into it by showing you quick scenes or just cutting to the aftermath was very jarring in a good way. I thought the soundtrack of the film was great and worked best when the soundtrack went away and left you watching scenes unfold. 

I give You Were Never Really Here a score of 7/10

First off, we have the story which has a struggling actor, father and husband finds himself at a major crossroads, which forces him to examine his life, his family and his career. I thought the story was very enjoyable with some nice moments thrown in throughout. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were very good with Zach Braff being the standout with the way he is clearly passionate about this film and manages to bring heart and care to the role. 

As for the film's visuals I thought, I thought the cinematography was one of the best aspects with the way the camerawork was used in conjunction with the lighting to create a warm look. Moving onto the tone of the film which managed to have some awkward comedy mixed with some tender drama. I thought the soundtrack of the film matched very well for a nice mix of tracks. 

I give Wish I Was Here a score of 7/10

Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea

First off, we have the story which has the Earth threatened by a burning Van Allen Radiation Belt, U.S. Navy Admiral Harriman Nelson plans to shoot a nuclear missile at the Belt, using his experimental atomic submarine, the Seaview. I thought the story was very enjoyable for a relaxing watch. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were good in terms of acting and worked for this type of genre film however the chemistry between the cast added some levity. 

As for the film's visuals I thought, I thought the cinematography was competent and consistent and the colours do make things stand out with the effects not looking bad for it's release. Moving onto the tone of the film which slowly built up the tension as events progressed. I thought the soundtrack of the film worked well for the film to add to some of the tense scenes. 

I give Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea a score of 6/10

First off, we have the story which has Spinal Tap, one of England's loudest bands, is chronicled by film director Marty DiBergi on what proves to be a fateful tour. I thought the story was very entertaining with how outargues some of the moments turned out to be.

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought in terms of acting were great and how they able to make up a made up band and all have chemistry that makes it seem the band could have been real. 

As for the film's visuals I thought, I thought the cinematography was great and the way it created the mockumentary look in terms of the camerawork and editing in the interviews, the daily life and the concerts. Moving onto the tone of the film which  managed to pull out some great comedic moments which was helped because of the chemistry between the band members. I thought the soundtrack of the film was very good and worked very well with the style and structure of the film. 

I give This Is Spinal Tap a score of 9/10

Sunshine

First off, we have the story which has a team of international astronauts are sent on a dangerous mission to reignite the dying Sun with a nuclear fission bomb in 2057. I thought the story was thrilling because of the way it slowly built up the dangers. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were all well acted and they worked off each other to give life to the story because of the mission that they are on with Cillian Murphy and Chris Evans being the standout actors.

As for the film's visuals I thought, I thought the cinematography was one of the best aspects about the film with the way the camera is used to create a claustrophobic atmosphere which ramps up when more dangers appear. Another standout was the design for the spaceship and the effects for outer space.Moving onto the tone of the film which was built up slowly as the mission was threatened as well as mixing in some interesting horror aspects to build the rising tension. I thought the soundtrack of the film was great and added a kind of haunting and chilling backing to the story.

I give Sunshine a score of 8/10

Raising Arizona

First off, we have the story which has a childless couple of an ex-con and an ex-cop decide to help themselves to one of another family's quintuplets, their lives become more complicated than they anticipated. I thought the story was very entertaining with some interesting conflicts, plot-lines and themes. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were fantastic in terms of acting and the chemistry between Nicholas Cage as Hi and Holly Hunter as Ed was a particular highlight

As for the film's visuals I thought, I thought the cinematography was great and I liked the location footage for the setting as well the choices in camerawork and lighting. Moving onto the tone of the film which I thought got a nice balance of dark humour and heartfelt drama throughout. I thought the soundtrack of the film had some good tracks and matched the style of the film. 

I give Raising Arizona a score of 8/10

First off, we have the story which has A schoolgirl and six of her classmates travel to her aunt's country home, which turns out to be haunted. I thought the story was very fun and enjoyable because of how strange and absurd it ended up. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were in terms of acting over the top but because of how the film progresses the acting to everything going on becomes funny and you want to see what happens to them.

As for the film's visuals I thought, I thought the cinematography was very interesting with the way the effects are used to create the supernatural elements as well as building the atmosphere throughout the film. Moving onto the tone of the film which definitely got some laughs from me with how over the top and weird everything turned out. I thought the soundtrack of the film suited the style the film was going for.

First off, we have the story which has the life of a simple bookshop owner changes when he meets the most famous film star in the world. I thought the story had some enjoyment to it over the course of the run-time.

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were decent in terms of acting and you could tell there was chemistry between the two main leads and they gave some good performances. 

As for the film's visuals I thought, I thought the cinematography was consistent and there was one sequence that surprised me with how it was shot and edited. Moving onto the tone of the film which had a decent mix of comedy and drama throughout. I thought the soundtrack of the film was good for the time the film came out as well as some decent backing.

First off, we have the story which has a nerdy college student will do anything to become popular on campus. I thought the story was very enjoyable and the jokes were consistently funny throughout. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were well acted and the chemistry on screen between them made the story work. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was great and had some thrilling sequences in especially at the end of the film. Moving onto the tone of the film which I thought managed to balance the funny moments with the drama wit the school story-line well for a nice mix of entertainment. I thought the soundtrack of the film added to some of the jokes as well as being used in them at points. 

I give The Freshman a score of 8/10

First off, we have the story which has a small-time hood who aspires to work his way up the ranks of a local mob. I thought the story was entertaining as well as a start to how Scorsese would do his future gangster films. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were very good in terms of acting and Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel had some great chemistry together because of their situation. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was great and I liked the way the camera and colour were used to create the style of the film. Moving onto the tone of the film which slowly built up the drama over the course of the story till everything kicked off. I thought the soundtrack of the film was good and worked for the time the film was set in. 

I give Mean Streets a score of 7/10

First off, we have the story which has a fast-track lawyer who can't lie for 24 hours due to his son's birthday wish after he disappoints his son for the last time. I thought the story was very enjoyable and it had a good message behind it. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were well acted and the chemistry between Jim Carrey's Fletcher and his son Max was great throughout the story and Jim Carrey's performance was captivating. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was consistent in terms of the camerawork and lighting. Moving onto the tone of the film which I thought managed to balance the drama and comedy very well. I thought the soundtrack of the film was ok and suited the time the film came out.

I give Liar Liar a score of 7/10

Sherlock, Jr.

First off, we have the story which has a film projectionist longs to be a detective, and puts his meagre skills to work when he is framed by a rival for stealing his girlfriend's father's pocketwatch. I thought the story was very entertaining and the idea behind this one was very original. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were well acted and the chemistry on screen together made the story work and Buster Keaton gave a great performance in his second film that I have seen. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was great and some of the sequences as well as the editing combined made for some very funny jokes. Moving onto the tone of the film which made the comedy very enjoyable as well as some good drama. I thought the soundtrack of the film had some nice tracks throughout and worked well for the time the film came out.

I give Sherlock, Jr. a score of 8/10

First off, we have the story which has overworked labourer at a film studio who helps a young woman find work even while his coworkers strike against his tyrannical boss. I thought the story was very entertaining and seeing a silent comedy based on a film set was fun to see. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were compelling and well acted and managed to time their jokes very well as well as their chemistry showed on screen. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was great and the preparation of each joke was set up to perfection. Moving onto the tone of the film which managed to hit most of the jokes and it made for an enjoyable watch. I thought the soundtrack throughout the film matched the jokes and some nice backing. 

I give Behind The Screen a score of 7/10

First off, we have the story which has an immigrant who endures a challenging voyage and gets into trouble as soon as he arrives in America. I thought the story was very enjoyable and worked in the 30 minute run-time. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were well acted and had some good chemistry on screen together and made the story work well. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was great and the way the camera was used to create the rocking of the boat was very good. The jokes were also elevated because of the timing of the camera. Moving onto the tone of the film which had some nice laughs and some warming drama between the characters. I thought the soundtrack of the film added to the emotions and timing with the moments between the characters

I give The Immigrant a score of 7/10

First off, we have the story which has a young witch, on her mandatory year of independent life, finds fitting into a new community difficult while she supports herself by running an air courier service. I thought the story was very enjoyable with some funny and wholesome moments throughout. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were very interesting and the voice acting made them come to life and I ended up watching the Disney English version and Kirsten Dunst as Kiki was very compelling. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the animation throughout was crisp and colourful and the world of the film feels lived in and very classic. Moving onto the tone of the film which had some nice comedy throughout as well as some compelling drama. I thought the soundtrack of the film was fantastic and added some fun and backing to make the film more adventurous and lively. 

I give Kiki's Delivery Service a score of 8/10

Johnny English Reborn

First off, we have the story which has Johnny English up against international assassins while hunting down the Chinese premier. I thought the story was enjoyable and the scale increase to make more of James Bond parody was fun to see. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were well acted and Rowan Atkinson is in fine form as Johnny English even though it has been some time since his first appearance. The rest of the supporting cast filled out the film quite nicely. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was consistent and seemed to have improved to make things more adventurous. Now we have the action which was filmed very well and managed to improve on the original film's sequences since upping the scale. Moving onto the tone of the film which got a few laughs out of me with the type of jokes they used throughout the film. I thought the soundtrack of the film was good and suited the style of the film. 

I give Johnny English Reborn a score of 7/10

First off, we have the story which has a molecular biologist and his laboratory partner uncover evidence that may fundamentally change society as we know it. I thought the story had some interesting ideas behind although the pacing was weird in places. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought weren't that great and I didn't care about their situations and the chemistry between some of the characters felt off when they interacted. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography throughout was consistent enough and I did like the colour pallets that were chosen. Moving onto the tone of the film which I thought tried to make some interesting drama through it's ideas and concepts which could have worked better. I thought the soundtrack of the film was alright and worked for the film.  

I give I Origins a score of 6/10

Hunt For The Wilderpeople

First off, we have the story which has a national manhunt is ordered for a rebellious kid and his foster uncle who go missing in the wild New Zealand bush. I thought the story was very enjoyable and was heartfelt and the characters brought it to life. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were fantastic in terms of acting and the chemistry together between Hec and Ricky was one of the best aspects as their relationship changes over the course of the story. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography throughout was phenomenal with the landscape shots of the setting as well traversing through wilderness immersed you into where they were. Even the editing of this film worked well it's long sequences and slow buildups. Moving onto the tone of the film which had some interesting use of comedy as well as some hitting drama that come together nicely. I thought the soundtrack of the film gave the backing of the film some life and accompanied the setting. 

I give Hunt For The Wilderpeople a score of 8/10

Ghostbusters

First off, we have the story in which after a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat. I thought the story was very cliche and the dialogue in places felt off and the way it moved from one scene to the next felt disconnected and in all was boring and I didn't care about the characters.  

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought had some chemistry together but as separate individuals weren't that interesting. The only one trying to stand out was Kate McKinnon as Jillian with her antics. The rest of the cast could have done much better choices. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the visual effects for the ghosts were pretty good as well as some the establishing shots. I also thought the editing was weird in places. Now we have the action which was somewhat enjoyable and the sequences were shot well. Moving onto the tone of the film which attempted to bring the comedy however it just came across as obnoxious or annoying which in turn made it unfunny. I thought the soundtrack of the film was suiting of the type of film they wanted to make. 

I give Ghostbusters a score of 2/10

First off, we have the story which documents the lives of infamous fakers Elmyr de Hory and Clifford Irving. I thought the story was very compelling and the way it was presented made it more entertaining

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought the people that the film was about ended up being interesting with how they were able to fool people with their work and I ended up being surprised. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was consistent and the choices with the camera and lighting helped to set up the presentation of the film. Moving onto the tone of the film which I thought handled the subjects very well and made you question what was going on. I thought the soundtrack of the film added to the background well enough and the choices suited the time the film came out.

I give F For Fake a score of 8/10

Fruitvale Station

First off, we have the story which has the story of Oscar Grant III, a 22-year-old Bay Area resident, who crosses paths with friends, enemies, family, and strangers on the last day of 2008. I thought the story was very insightful and and that shows with how the director carefully planned it out to present it in the way he wanted to and still to this day should be watched by people.  

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought in terms of acting were fantastic from everyone around especially by Michael B. Jordan as Oscar and the way he went through life and how he treated the people around him especially his family and even though he was going through times it didn't get him down. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography throughout was one of the best parts because of the way it used handheld to get real close to the characters during intimate moments so a immersive experience could be felt. Moving onto the tone of the film which built up the drama over the course of the story right until the fateful moment when it hits hard as you have seen the type of person who it happened to.

I give Fruitvale Station a score of 9/10

Empire Of The Sun

First off, we have the story which has a young English boy who struggles to survive under Japanese occupation during World War II. I thought the story was very compelling and interesting seeing another aspect of the World War 2 conflict that affected other countries. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were great all around with young Christian Bale giving an excellent performance in one of his earliest roles. The supporting cast filled out the film and all worked well off each other. 

As for the film's visuals I thought there were some impressive shots throughout with the choices made for the cinematography especially some of the shots that showed the harshness of the times for everyone during the time period. Moving onto the tone of the film which did a good job at setting the atmosphere of the war and being in the camps so you felt for the people. I thought the soundtrack of the film suited the film very well especially with the emotional scenes. 

I give Empire Of The Sun a score of 8/10

Dracula: Dead and Loving It

First off, we have the story which has Mel Brooks' parody of the classic vampire story and its famous film adaptations. I thought the story was surprisingly enjoyable in places with some of the jokes they used throughout. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were mostly good in terms of acting with the chemistry between some of them was very good to make some of the comedy funny. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was passable and worked for the style of film they were going for. Moving onto the tone of the film which for the most landed some of the comedy although not every joke landed. I thought the soundtrack of the film was ok for the type of film it was used in.

First off, we have the story which has a mild-mannered accountant is lured into the world of international espionage after he reunites with an old pal through Facebook. I thought the story was fun in places although generic in terms of the plot points when it comes to a spy film. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were generic in terms of their execution but the acting between Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson added some chemistry so you could find something likeable about them. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography throughout was consistent and some of the sequences were done well to suit this type of film. Now we have the action which could have done better with some of the choices they made with the sequences. Moving onto the tone of the film with it's comedic aspects with a few of the jokes working for me but a vast majority fell flat. I thought the soundtrack of the film was forgettable with the choices they made. 

I give Central Intelligence a score of 5/10

First off, we have the story which has Bonnie Parker, a bored waitress falls in love with an ex-con named Clyde Barrow and together they start a violent crime spree through the country, stealing cars and robbing banks. I thought the story was very enjoyable from start to finish about some interesting real life criminals and their exploits. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were great in terms of acting and the chemistry between the two main leads carried the story very well. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was very good especially the production design for the entire film added to the setting and brought the time to life. Moving onto the tone of the film which I thought balanced the crime and action as well as the drama between the characters very well. I thought the soundtrack of the film suited the time the film was set.

I give Bonnie And Clyde a score of 7/10

All Good Things

First off, we have the story in which Mr. David Marks was suspected but never tried for killing his wife Katie who disappeared in 1982, but the truth is eventually revealed. I thought the story had some interesting moments waiting to see how everything would play out. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were in terms of acting were compelling and the standout was Ryan Gosling with his chilling performance and the way he brought across being broken. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was very good and the gradual use of dark lighting, shadows and colour scheme suited the building tension over the course of the story. Moving onto the tone of the film which was consistent and made for some suspenseful scenes. I thought the soundtrack of the film was ok and suited the style the film was going for.

I give All Good Things a score of 6/10

Spider-Man: Far From Home

The newest film I went to see in the cinemas was Spider-Man: Far From Home

First off, we have the story in which Peter Parker and his friends go on a summer trip to Europe. However, they will hardly be able to rest - Peter will have to agree to help Nick Fury uncover the mystery of creatures that cause natural disasters and destruction throughout the continent. I thought the story was very enjoyable especially with the character development of Peter and how the events of the snap affected the world. 

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought the acting was very good and the standouts were Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and how he has to come to deal with the events of Tony's death as well as wanting to spend the summer with his friends and MJ. The other standout was Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio and was an interesting threat and enjoyed his performance as my favorite Spider-Man villain. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the cinematography was fantastic with the camerawork and lighting especially during some of the action sequences involving Mysterio showing off what he can do. Now we have the action which was very thrilling and compelling to see on screen with quick set pieces and movements following Spider-Man and how he fights. Moving onto the tone of the film which I thought had some compelling drama and some funny comedic moments although some of the jokes didn't hit for me unfortunately. I thought the soundtrack of the film was very enjoyable and went well with the style and feel the film was going for. 

I give Spider-Man: Far From Home a score of 8/10
