First off, we have the story which has a crafty samurai help a young man and his fellow clansmen save his uncle, who has been framed and imprisoned by a corrupt superintendent. I thought the story was very interesting and being familiar with the main character a getting to see how he would work in this film.

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were good in terms of acting and having the returning Toshiro Mifune as the same ronin from Yojimbo was nice to see with the way he interacted with the other main samurai.

As for the film's visuals, I thought the cinematography was great with how the sequences are constructed in terms of the camerawork to give certain scenes as much weight as possible. Now we have the action which was entertaining from the fighting and to some of the mind games involved. Moving onto the tone of the film which managed to include a small amount of comedy and some interesting drama. I thought the soundtrack of the film worked well and suited the setting of the story.

I give Sanjuro a score of 8/10
