For the twenty-third film of the month we have Jaws
First off, we have the story which has a giant man-eating great white shark attacks beach-goers on Amity Island prompting the local police chief to hunt it with the help of a marine biologist and a professional shark hunter. I thought the story was very entertaining and after hearing so many good things about it i ended up thoroughly enjoying it.
Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were done very well so that you cared about them as they faced the threat of the shark and the acting backed that up with each of the main characters giving a convincing performance.
As for the film's visuals I thought the film has some fantastic visuals such as when the camera would go under the water for the sharks perspective as well as when an attack would happen and didn't shy away from showing the brutal details of it. The cinematography was excellent in terms of camera placement and lighting. Now we have the action which I thought was thrilling as well as entertaining as the shark started appearing and continued to threaten Amity Island. Eventually when the characters got down to business oh hunting it, that's when it got more exciting. Moving onto the tone of the film which managed to build up the horror with all the attacks as well as when the next attack would happen. I thought the soundtrack of the film which is one of the well known things about the film with how famous it is was and I can see why as it built the tension throughout the film as the shark threatened the public. The main theme was one of the best tracks and it added to the fear and building up of the shark.
Overall, I thought this film was a fantastic film with thrills all around that kept the entertainment high and the simple idea of a shark attack could be done this well as I were on the edge of my seat throughout.
I give Jaws a score of 9/10
