The Great Gatsby

For the thirty-seventh film of the month we have The Great Gatsby

First off, we have the story which has a writer and wall street trader, Nick, finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his millionaire neighbour, Jay Gatsby. I thought the story was intriguing throughout and how it progressed it became more entertaining.

Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were well acted by all the min cast withe the standouts being Leonardo Di Caprio as the main man Gatsby as he manages to portray the wealthy and mysterious man who is the main focus. Then you had Tobey Maguire as Nick who becomes involved with Gatsby and other individuals he meets and watches everything unfold. 

As for the film's visuals I thought the way the setting was presented with it's buildings, costumes and other aesthetics that you would see but the cinematography of the film was  over the top to match the film but was too over the top in parts and became distracting.   Moving onto the tone of the film which I thought worked as because of the way it was presented and built up the more dramatic tone suited it than a calmer one. I thought the soundtrack of the film which fit the film as it decided to take the over the top route with the atmosphere and used tracks from present time than having what the film would have had if it was a classic setting and not modernised like the film presented itself.

Overall, I thought this film was mixed film with both good and bad elements to it but because of it's story and characters that built the world up and their relationships were very interesting to see change. 

I give The Great Gatsby a score of 7/10
