For the twenty-ninth film of the month we have Oldboy
First off, we have the story which has a man with no clue how he came to be imprisoned, drugged and tortured for 15 years, decides to seek revenge on his captors. I thought the story
was very entertaining and I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end of the film.
Next, we have the characters which overall, I thought were one of the best parts of the film being one of the focuses of it especially the main character of Oh Dae-su as you want him to get his revenge on his captors after 15 years and the journey that he goes on to get it and what he goes through.
In terms of the film's visuals I thought they were expertly done especially in terms of the action which was done carefully to capture everything so you could see what was going on and the stunt work done with the action was very good. the cinematography in general was very good with particular camera positions as well as lighting to build an unsettling atmosphere throughout. Then there was also the editing which was clean and paced very well. Now we have the action which was very intense and thrilling and it didn't hold back with the violence and showing it which at parts was hard to watch. Moving onto the tone of the film which didn't hold anything back and was hard hitting from minute one with it's themes and it's dark story. I thought the soundtrack of the film was very melancholic and slow which fit the film well.
Overall, I thought this film was very entertaining and one of the best revenge films I have seen through it's contents and it's action which it made more personal to the character so it would be more engaging.
I give Oldboy a score of 9/10
