Alone In The Dark

I decided to watch Alone In The Dark

First off we have the story which follows Edward Carnby a paranormal investigator who hast to unravel a dark mystery of an ancient civilisation. I thought the story was very boring and uninteresting as it needed a slow opening crawl just to give backstory which felt generic anyway.

Next we have the characters which overall I thought were either generic, boring or cliche with the worst of them being Edward Carnby played by Christian Slater an investigator with a mysterious past  along with a pretentious monologue. The acting as whole of this film was bad with the script not helping anyone's performance.

Now we have the action which was silly in places towards the beginning because of the choreography but later in the film when the guns are pulled out it was very generic and boring so there wasn't any enjoyment to be found when the action came.

As for the visuals I thought the film looked awful with the lack of good cinematography and direction especially during the action sequences as they were either silly and towards the end of the film you couldn't see what was going on as of how dark it was. When it came to the horror aspects the special effects for the creatures weren't very good. Moving onto the tone of the movie which for a horror movie was disappointing as there weren't any good scares a film like this should have as well as being generic in places with the mystery aspect. I thought the soundtrack of the film was very generic and uninspiring for an action/horror film however when the action kicks in it feels jarring and over the top.

Overall I thought this film was a generic action horror film with no scares and a script that is uninspiring with what it it is trying to tell and the acting behind it also doesn't do any help to this awful film.
