For the second film of the new month for Cyberpunk Movie Month is Alphaville
First off we have the story which has Lemmy Caution going to Alphaville to stop Alpha 60 which controls the city of Alphaville as well as it's creator. I thought the story was was very intriguing and I thought the concept was executed really well for a 60's sci-fi film.
Next we have the characters which overall I thought were interesting because the main character Lemmy is from outside of Alphaville so he doesn't have the same thinking of the city of Alphaville. There is also Natacha who over the course of the film has her mind opened up to the reality of Alphaville because of her meeting Lemmy.
As for the visuals I thought the film looked really good, being a French New Wave film there are certain camera shots which are used a lot, one being the long take which is used very well throughout. In terms of the visuals for the setting of the film also looked impressive and showed the locations off. The direction of the film was done very well and felt smooth and easy to follow. Moving onto the tone of the movie which I felt had a dark tone because of the way the city and its people were being controlled by the Alpha 60 and makes you think that the kind of thinking could happen in the future however likely. I thought the soundtrack of the film was interesting as it had tracks that added to the film and certain scenes were suspenseful very well although certain tracks were repeated but it didn't annoy me.
Overall I thought this film was an excellent cyberpunk and sci-fi movie with a plot that was very intriguing and entertaining plus having characters that carried the film very well.
I give Alphaville a score of 8/10
